Frank Ocean Channel Orange To Success

When my former assistant told me Frank Ocean, is it. "Watch out Chris Brown," I chuckled. You see there always been a new Madonna, remember Britney? Or a new Michael; hello Breezy? In Mr Brown's case and even in Miss Spears; their work never turned out to be a continuation in the line of the people the media or public had compared them to. It never turned out that way.
We are people of habits and naturally when we assess something new we compare it to a known experience from our memory. At least, I had now an incentive; and I did a little research on my own to see what the fuss was all about. I found Frank Ocean, and as soon as I heard his voice I realized how particular he was. I love Chris Brown's voice; his dance moves and his overall bad crooner attitude; but in an instant I started looking for more of Ocean's music. There is never real competition when it comes to success and top position in the world. "This is always more crowded at the bottom than at the top of the ladder." Simply because most people will never want to do the work that will pro-pulse them to such a position. Frank, has a distinctive voice a singular sense of delivery. While Frank shocked his fans and those who had never heard of him as of July 3rd 2012, by confessing in an open letter he published on his Tumblr account his love for another young man. Frank Ocean, proved in such a short time being in the spotlight that a road to success either be via Channel Orange or not (That's the name of his anticipated album) it comes with being honest with himself and with his fans. GLAAD and Rap Godfather Russell Simmons, simultaneously issued a written statement in support of his decision to acknowledge his sexuality.
All these comments about either he is gay or bi or not are a total distraction from his talent. Frank Ocean being an African American growing up in an urban environment with it's cliches and accepted truth or lies stood up and made a change. Most people in his situation would not have the courage to even touch on the subject; but not Frank. After President Barack Obama; Jay Z; and even T.I came out publicly in support of gay marriage. I personally was happy to see things change in our time. Their is to be steps toward tolerance from people in position of leadership. Being in show business since my early teens and having lived virtually on my own since I was 12; I never really understood why people were so hung up on other people sexuality. Isn't someone's body parts one's own discretion and own property? May be this is because my parents never sat me and talked to me about sex; or is it?
When I have a son (I already have a daughter) I will make sure that he never feels like his sexuality defines him as a man in society. What defines a human being is the way they treat others. If someone treats you with love and respect then that person is a good person.
To think that anyone would subject themselves to public scrutiny in order to sale more music is tempting but not when it comes to any African American man sexuality ; homosexuality or even bisexuality (Yes some people are bi). One of my home girl told me when discussing Frank Ocean. "The Gays, are taking over"(?) and I know she like guys and gals too LMAO/DAM. Then one of my friend told me "My boys won't listen to Frank Ocean's music anymore since they found out about him..." (K) I am African and in Africa just like anywhere in the world there are homosexuals gays; bi; lesbians and transgendered youth. (Get with the program).
The only way I can put that in perspective is by sharing a comment I heard the late president Odimba Bongo of Gabon say when he welcomed the news of an Obama presidency. "We have had black Presidents for a long time here in Africa; but that's a good thing for the US." So yes sometimes, we look at foreign things as a treat to us. What's not the norm scare most of you and me as well at times.
We need to learn to be more tolerant and loving. Our youth will take the torch and lead the way soon. Either you have Girls or boys wouldn't you want them to love themselves for who they are; not for what others would like them to be? Would you rather your children have honest and different role models they can relate to? We shall see. You can listen Frank Ocean Channel Orange here - DR

Djamee On Giving
Click to visit Djamee's new website CIM.
When you give you get back. The more you give the more you get. Why? Because when you are giving you are aligning yourself with mother nature. The sun is giving and does not ask for anything in return for it's blessings rendered days after days. Give love and you will get more love; give knowledge and you will learn even more from the experience of teaching; give money and you will get more money; give applause for other's achievements and you will yourself achieve MORE. Never holdback on the flow of giving. When you think you have nothing more to give; start giving more. You will always get more than what you are giving. So if you sing SIING! If you dance DAANCE if you TEACH then TEEEAAACH! give your all. I love you - DR
