Just think there was a great chance the world almost missed out on the opportunity to witness one of the greatest female boxers of all time in the ring. Considering the fact, she dreamed of becoming a doctor, a Kung-Fu fighter or kick boxing champion and never once thought about boxing. After years of success in the ring during her early years as a kick boxer, her team and coaches at the time noticed her unique yet proficient foot work in the ring and recommend she try boxing, just to see how well she does. She then spent a few months researching the sport and watching other fighters before making her decision in becoming a boxer. Fast forward 2 years into her making a decision to making boxing her first passion, Helen Joseph (the Iron lady) has beaten up all her opponents and challengers. Her hard work and dedication to the sport has quickly gained her recognition of boxing organizations locally in Ghana and Nigeria, and internationally around the world.

In my years managing models and talent, I have seen promising careers compromised by pictures that did not look professional, or worse; that misrepresented their actual look. The talent or model looked great in person and did not look the same on their headshot. Long are gone the days when actors mass produced headshots. The days of the glossy black and white actors headshots are over.
Most Talent agencies do not accept unsolicited mail and there is no walk ins in most agencies. At the time I'm writing this, the world has been rocked by a pandemic and all industries must do their business online to follow social distancing measures put in place in their cities.
Here are 5 tips anyone new or not can use right away to get their headshot themselves and submit to agencies online which is now more the norm than the exception.
1) Give your smart phone to your 7 years old kid in your house, or ask your neighbor's kid to help for a few bucks.
Let them take your picture. Trust this, you are in good hands. Have them stand on a stable chair, a sofa. Or let them sit on the edge of a table. The idea here is to have them facing you even if this means for them to have to point the phone higher as if they were at a concert. You don't want them to take the picture from bellow your chin. Make sure the person who takes your snapshots understand what you want the pictures for. Trough my experience, kids will keep it simple and that's what you want.
2) Avoid indoors pictures, or any photo with distracting background. Keep it simple. Use natural light to your advantage. Face the sun. The best time to take good portrait is early in the morning or late in the afternoon. That's when the sun can be on your face not on the top of your head. If you don't want to the the pictures outside, you can use lights on each side of the face not right in front and not coming from the back or above you.
3) For women. Have a clean face. Wear little or no make up. Wear a fitting tank top for models. Fitting solid color shirt for talent. If you have long hair, keep them off your face so that they are not distracting from your features. You can have your hair in a bun, or a pony tail.
4) If you are taking pictures of kids, to submit them to an agency. You can take a full body picture. Make sure that they are facing you. for all pictures including your own, use clothes with solid colors, like jeans and khaki. Absolutely no logo; no stripes and no green colors.
5) Here is the most important tip of all. Agency scouts receive dozens to hundred of submissions everyday on a quiet day. Be mindful that a lot of projects in the digital age have a fast turnaround. You may be tempted to photoshop the picture with one of your phone app; or using a photo editor on your desktop. DON'T!
The photo is for you or the kid you want to place in an agency to be seen. This is not a photo that will end up on a billboard on your highway.
The goal is to make it as easy as possible for the person receiving your photo to make a decision on your physical potential. If it is photoshopped or if you are wearing too much make up and add ons, such as lashes, wigs or hair extension. you will not get a good response if any; when submitting to a legitimate agency.
You want them to follow up with a request of a Skype or FaceTime interview. with you.
BONUS: Beware of agencies that will tell you "We can't use this pictures but we are offering a photoshoot and a package that include you to be placed on our website for XYZ amount. RUN AWAY! That's a scam.
You can use a photographer as long as they are not trying to take artistic photos. Again that's not the point here. So no need to give money to photographers for photos we won't use or images that don't help us make a decision

In this video featuring Karry Wang Junkai, of the TF BOYS, you get a complimentary VIP pass to the Behind The Scenes, of his "DREAM CONCERT."
For those of you who are interested, I have placed the youtube link under the video so you can watch the actual show. Karry Wang's solo career is just spectacular. The change of clothes; the choreography, the piano solo; the musician's jam; and the change of hairdo (spoiler alert) Complete with hair extension and tiara.
Here eerily, at a packed stadium days before the global pandemic 2020. I believe this is an example of how a bigger dream can pull you high and far like a big magnet could to attract your dream's achievement.
It always starts with your dream. The dream stays alive as you put fuel on it. What you will observe in this behind-the-scenes video is the actual kind of work that needs to be put into place before the actual "Show." Well, at least some part of it. But you get the idea.
There was a time at The Metro Goldwyn - Meyer Studio (MGM), Talent was signed for their potential for development. Not for the level, they were at when they were discovered.
When signing the talent knew that their life would change. Not what you may think. Yes, the glamour; fame, and money would come. But it would come with success.
What they would have to get prepared for is intense work. They would have to invest their time in developing new skills. Learn how to sing; accents. Speak several languages; stage combat. Learn and master several dances. Learn how to cook; learn how to drive; learn how to use firearms; learn how to ride a horse.
This list is not exhaustive.
When the studio Producers and team would come back to them with a script; if there was an element in it that required them to train. Let's say the actor would have to play an Olympic swimmer; the studio would provide intensive swimming training to get the actor to learn the basics; so that they could play their part in the most authentic way. They would go through the training even if they were assigned a stunt body double.
If you want to achieve that level of success in your own endeavor; there are a few things you will want to come to an agreement with. You will have to be ready to invest time. You will have to select how you spend your time. This means your favorite people with whom you hang out may not be part of that plan; if it is to become accomplished. This kind of commitment will inevitably be perceived as a sacrifice.
You can try to half-ass this. And you will never reach that kind of level of success. This will be intense. This won't be about what you know or what you like at the beginning. It will be only about what works. This will require a level of focus on your part that some call obsession.
If you want to hear yes If you want to kick that door open and enter and be a part of the high-level group of your choice. You will have to be serious about it.
Have a look. This is not whether you like the TF BOYS or Kerry Wang. This is besides the point. The point here is to see a clear example of what I talk about.
You will understand why people quit. Why people do not make it. Not because they are not good; but because they are not willing to put in the right work. This is why this is important to choose something you love to do; so that the efforts it will ultimately require from you will not feel like work.
The finished product cannot give you that kind of information. You will never get that kind of information in the final product. It's like looking at Denzel Washington, at the Oscars. He may be a presenter there; you may get motivated by his words. But that's about it.
Motivation will make you feel good, but it won't help you recognize what the high achiever moves are. For those of you who love to read, I suggest you read the biography about the person or people who have done what you want to do successfully. Then apply that to your own situation and simply duplicate.
Yes, there is no need to change the moves that work. If they work for them; they will work for you if you work for them.
Pay close attention to the non-obvious. See how people interact. You cannot tell me that because the video camera is running it's fake. Particularly, in this case, Karry Wang Junkai grew up with cameras on him and his TF- BOYS bandmates. The camera on you will showcase an amplified version of your character's traits.
This is very important when you want to succeed in Show Business, to have discipline.
Be on time and pay attention. Do not waste people's time, because you will end up wasting your chances.
Repetition and frequency are the keys. Why do Karry and the dancers keep on repeating the same moves; right up until they are ready to take the stage? Because just like Bruce Lee famously said: "I am not scared of the man who can throw 10,000 punches, I am more scared of the men who have practiced how to throw one punch 10,000 times."
The TF-BOYS, were kids when they were selected to form that group. You should know the truth; even if kids are naturally pre-disposed to learn anything like an absorbing sponge; in fact, you can learn a new skill at any age; if you only focus on that one skill for a certain length of time.
Most people don't do it because they think it is too late, but the fact is that our brain can be trained over time to learn a new skill and form new habits at the highest level, through repetition, and frequency.
It does not matter how old, or young you are. I understand you’re not gonna go on stage and play a teenager; that’s fine. This video is for those of you who would like to be performing on stage at a stadium and those of you who want to perform at the stadium of your choice.
If you like to be singing and dancing on stage; these are principles of success that can give you access to that level. The same principles of success observed here, can be applied in any "Performance of your choice,"
You have here practical examples of what the basics of brilliance in any field look like.
Do not overthink it. Do the work. Paying attention and being open-minded are essential for you to succeed in your own endeavor. I hope you found great value in this post. You can like or share so that someone who needs to read this information can have access to it.
Have a great week.
