I am always amazed on how much people get away with; or at least it seems for a while.
When it comes to concepts; we deal with opinions and in this case my own. Today I am sharing with you my belief about ethics; confidence and recognition in show biz.
Please keep an open mind; and I suggest you challenge me or help me redefine some of my ideas. Ideas can always be "Fine tuned." Mine are no different. We should always keep room for improvement.
Everything has been created and perfected from the beginning of time. Past present and future are human made concept that allow only for innovation.
In every generation there are innovators; not creators.
I have a strong CONFIDENCE in the statements thereof.
On "Ethics": When you are facing a moral choice realize what MORAl means and if it does not resonate with you; come closer to home and ask yourself "What would an human do in this situation."
On "Confidence:" You will need to be confident when making a decision. So take the time to think before your act; talk ; or write. You may be confident that you are right but that does not necessarily make you right. By putting yourself in the other(s) person shoes you will be able to adjust your level of confidence to what is MORALY fair.
On "Recognition:" If you want to climb the ladder of success FAST; with a strong group of supporters on your side; you will need to genuinely recognize each individual that helped you by name or their affiliation, if they are a part of huge group.
Examples of good ethics VS Bad ethics in show biz:
As a writer; music producer/beat maker; songwriter; video director; designer/Fashion Designer; Model scout /Casting Director... If you decide to use someone's work; quote them! Mention them; or acknowledge them publicly in writing and verbally as well as in the credit of your current work.
Michael Jackson R.I.P, always credited James Brown R.I.P, but omited to credit Manu Dibango for a sample he used from Soul Makossa, to write Wanna Be Startin Something; Prince, credited Jimmi Hendrix for his early style; Madonna RECOGNIZED the stars from Hollywood's Metro Goldwyn Mayer movie Studios; Lady Gaga, takes good care of her "Little Monsters" and Justin BIeber always RECOGNIZED his fans. From the early days on Youtube up to now 5 years later. Today, Justin Bieber is the stars with the most views on Youtube...
Youtube always credit the original owner of a copyrighted work in their content by redirecting a song cover to a merchant store where audience can purchase or at least RECOGNIZE the original even if it consists of only 30 seconds of original content.
Nicki Minaj, made history earlier this year by performing and rapping "Stupid Hoe" in a video by Hype Williams, using archetypes from some of the most respected photographers such as Jean Paul Goude and living legends such as Grace Jones in what turned out to be one of the most disparaging song to associate glamourous iconic images to diss Nicki's rap rival in that case the evident target was Lil Kim. The "Queen Bee," ended up winning by default because of Nicki Minaj's faux pas. As it turned out the lyrics were actually good but the video was totally inappropriate for such a song.
In comparison Madonna, used her mega hit of the early 90's VOGUE, to RECOGNIZE all the major Hollywood stars before her by name while edifying their style in imagery in her Vogue's video. She scored an everlasting result by doing so and positioned herself as an icon as well. She brought on her side music and movie fans that may otherwise not have embraced her.
So when as an artist you decide to use someone else style or music or ideas you are well advised to credit/recognize them by name in a reverent way. The downfall for not doing so is not worth trying doing without.
Click on Flyer by Chris Broady
In the video above you have here the perfect example of RECOGNITION. Although the POP UPs were edited by VH1, the only way producition could find these information is because camp Madonna; Label and Management had properly archived and filed these information with detailed credit including the names location and dates.
I was surprise recently when Chris at Broady Designs credited me with coming up with an INNOVATION when I decided to ask him to use specific imagery from THE MATRIX to change Neo's character choice of 2 pills to pick from in "Morpheus," hands into a choice of red or blue mic on each of his hands; when I ordered a flyer to help promote a new open mic I am co producing with Rick Davy & DJ Stiletto in Brooklyn. But it showed "Show Business" savvy and ethics; as I know I did not request him to mention it.
When actors or singers are about to receive an award; their emotion can be overwhelming. That's why they learn to remember important facts that have to do with credit and recognition so that they can recognize those not on the spotlight sincerely and on cue during an interview or on stage performing or recieving awards.

I Do It Like Madonna
Nobody looks like that at 53 and is really upset.
Madonna, may claim to be "Very upset," about the leak on the internet of her forthcoming song "Give Me All Your Love," But believing that she has nothing to do with it (The leak), is a hard candy to swallow. No one, not even a die hard fan can't help but think this is rather a compliment Madame at your age to have your music floating on the world wide web. Huhh? What*@%$????. Hargh!!! Oh non... Mon Dieu" lol "Sacre Bleu"[ lmao] In my French accent " FUCK! I kill you"...Hahah and Miss Ciconne you are a master at manipulating the media.
Well, hold yout fire. I love Madonna; I always did. Once upon a time I heard "Holiday" (Celebrate) her break trough funky song. "Holiday," was all the rage on the radio in the early/mid 80's and for some stereotypical reasons I assumed the singer was black. To be fair about my ignorance; at the time most of us did, and as a viral video would catch fire today on Youtube; Maddona's, "Holiday" started playing all over the world and into the clubs and on the FM. Simultaneously a movie co-starring her "Seeking Desperately Susan," hit the theater. This was an instant blockbuster it had been filmed prior to Madonna's new found fame and at the time she got paid a mere $4000 the equivalent of $7000 today. A star was born and thus I grew up loving Madge.
give me all your love [2012 demo]
Rihanna is one of today's stars inspired by Madonna
In 1994, I tried desesperately to get in the Roseland, where Madonna, was performing. No luck then. In early 2000, I designed a hat for her, I delivered it backstage at the Roseland. At the time I had a little store front in The village within"Tattoo Seen" selling hats; belt buckles with names and scarves with rhinestones. I had made hats for Prince's website so I thought let me design something for her too. But this is only in 2008 that my dream came true. I got to see the Queen of Pop up close and personal, at her intimate concert she was throwing for her fans kicking off her for Hard Candies tour for her last studio album "Candy Shop," with former label Time Warner.
Madonna is a true star! I will never forget how stunning she was. Such a pro; focused and shining trough. Madonna, has mastered the art of entrance. So far in her career she has made a point to collaborate with anyone in the moment. Looking at her music and videos is like looking at the history of music since the mid 80's. I remember Timberlake; Pharell; performing with her with a strong of break dancers coming out of a train on stage. #Insider Madonna is currently dating a French Break dancer. She has been famous and center stage for over 25 years. Married twice;infamously with Sean penn, she has children from different parts of the world and a teen daughter designer!. She was booed often when her "Sex" book was published and was seen as a new low in pop culture; mainly by critics who did not even take the time to read it. The book is a collector item now. She survived the storm; actually it made her an even bigger star. She is vindicated by new comer like Lady Gaga and Rihanna who have both been influenced by her either they acknowledge it or not. Long are gone the day Britney Spears was prematurately crown the new Princess of pop. To answer that Madonna, gave Britney the "kiss of Death," live at the VMA. Seriously tough, Madonna has proved to be a master of survival for her relevance for both her image and music trough the last 2 decades. How she does it? She had to survive on the streets of NYC when she first arrived from Michigan Detroit. Later she flew to Paris and became a back up dancer for Patrick Hernandez. She found herself on TV, for the first time for his Disco hit "Born to be Alive." As a dancer she follows a strict discipline and stay in great shape by eating healthy and marrying and now dating younger guys. Madonna, is Street wise and in her movie "In Bed With Madonna," one gets a chance to see what it takes to be her touring the world. She kissed girls long before katy Perry; dated her dancers long before J-Lo. She is the epitome of Diva in show biz today with a majority of gay fans. Lady Gaga is the direct product of Madonna; for better or worse (depending who you ask). She would arrive at events and the paparazzi would wait religiously. Once she arrived they would scream "Madonna!! over here, over here!" and if she did not stop for pictures she would be called a whore. I always thought this was sexist because Prince would not stop for pictures either and no one called him a whore. #Fact Michael Jackson (R.I.P), Prince, and Madonna all became famous at the same time and age. Madonna had a song produced by Prince in her first album. This was probably facilitated by the fact that they were label mates. Still she hooked up with Michael Jackson for a very well documented entrance to the Oscars. Ironically MJ and Prince always competed; or at least the media made it look that way. Madonna, staying power has been her abilitiy to live in the present and to be able to interpret the new trends with her new look(s) and her music. A mogul, Madonna has a real estate empire a music catalog, fashion holdings trough her daughter Lourdes'clothing line Material Girls a line of Eyewear in collaboration with her friends Dolce & Gabbana, A $130 Millon deal with Live Nation. This is her first album with Live Nation who surprisingly paid more Lil Wayne, Jay Z and 50 Cent, to follow suit. Under Time Warner she even was given her own label Maverick in a multi million deal over $10 million; that was a record then. Madonna true love is acting even though she never was recognized as a major force in that industry. she notoriously fought for the lead role for Evita, to portray the Argentina, legend; she got it and nailed it. Today she is also a movie director. "She has penned a "beautiful ballad" for her movie "W.E."The picture, Madonna's second feature film as director, follows the life of Wallis Simpson, the American divorcee whose relationship with King Edward VIII sparked a constitutional crisis in Britain and led to his abdication. The film, which had its world premiere at the Venice film festival, hits U.S. theaters in December and British cinemas in January."[quote from Reuters article] 2012 will be Madonna year. She has made million people around the world happy with her music ;videos and films. She deserves it.
Welcome back Queen of Pop and for the memories bellow arguably the song from Patrick Hernandez, that made it all possible for you - DR
