Lee Ji Han, a Korean actor and singer from the famous K-pop group Girls' Generation, was among the more than 150 people who died at a Halloween celebration in Seoul over the weekend.
The spokesman for Lee's management agency, 935 Entertainment, confirmed the news to media in Korea on Sunday.
The outlet reported that Lee was 24.
935 Entertainment wrote on Instagram that it was "heartbroken" to share the "sad news," calling the performer "a precious family member."
"Please accept my deepest condolences to all of the family members who are in deepest grief," the statement continued.
Lee made his debut as a member of one of the 101 trainees in "Produce 101 Season 2". He went on to make his acting debut in the popular web drama, "Today Was Another Nam Hyun Day."
At least 154 people have been confirmed dead, with many more injured, after a crowd surge during Halloween festivities on Friday night in a small alleyway in the Itaewon district of Seoul.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared a period of national mourning, prompting several entertainment shows to suspend airing, according to CNN Philippines.
I would like to present my condolences to the family of Lee Ji Han, his fans and friends around the world. In 2009 I went to a free Drake concert at Southport in New York city. Drake never got out of his his bus tour. There was a dangerous stampede then and I filmed it. It was horrible.
In a fraction of seconds one person panicked and the whole group started panicking. These are the most dangerous situations trying to escape a crowd which panics. I am saddened by the loss of lives from these types of situations like the travis Scott performance .
Please be mindful of your surroundings. If the organizers of an event don't seem to do their job, or seem overwhelmed; do everything you can to alert your friends and leave as soon as you realize the place where you are is unsafe.
If it is already too late try to get on higher ground or even climb a pole or a tree.
Do not drink or do drugs in an outside parade, wear comfortable shoes. Best yet sometimes it is better to stay home.
My heart is broken. My sympathy goes to the lives cut short at Seoul Halloween event that took the lives of more than 150 people including beloved K-Pop artist Lee Ji Han.
