If you live in Manhattan, you probably love the city and always will. Yet all signs point to Brooklyn as the emerging number one destination in New York, for anything art; Sport and entertainment. The Nets backed by Barclays, the #1 bank in the world has already transform Brooklyn; it's landscape and the perception people have of it even before it opens it's doors on September 28th. Jay Z, arguably the most famous Brooklyn native knew he had to Be part of it and invested millions of it's own fortune to become part owner of the NETS franchise that was on is way to BK from NJ. Big brand luxury stores like Barneys are following Target there and the subject of our attention today the one and only trend setting fashion pioneer in Brooklyn BK Fashion Week End is celebrating their 13th Season this weekend from March 29th to April 1st 2012 at the Industry lofts, effectively putting "BROOKLYN & BEYOND" on the map for more than 6 years.
I have been a fervent supporters of BKFW since I came across the Foundation years ago. I had found a flyer promoting their next event on the ground and I picked it up. It said on it that they needed models so I went to the casting they were doing in Greenpoint that season. I introduced myself and met Rick Davy the creative director and force behind it all. Since then I have been involved with helping with models generating new ideas for the events and was even awarded at the Brooklyn Borough Hall for my team efforts in 2011 at the BK Style Foundation regognition ceremony event. I am grateful I was given the opportunity to kick start my now growing line of accessories StuddedSpikes by Djamee with Jhon Ashford Shoes in Fall 2009 at a BKFW show. The show was taking place in an old church and again in 2010 when they took it to the huge Steiner studio by the waterfront in Brooklyn Navy Yard. Channel 12 News a fervent BKFW sponsor did a reportage on the designers collections and the response I got from the media exposure was explosive to my business. The energy is on point "Brooklyn is for the hard knocks in life. With the foundation's support I always have the fuel to continue Being part of it; Fashion that is. SEE YA LL THERE! - DR
