Today's Interview Dasha @TheDivineDivah
DashaWhen did you start music and what triggered your love for R&B?
I grew up in a home where music was always played. The Whispers, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey among others were always playing so R&B is a natural love. Its the soundtrack of my life.
Where did you grow up and what is your best memory growing up? I grew up in the Bay Area. Started out in Oakland and later moved to Alameda. One of my best memories growing up would be waking up late on a Saturday morning to the smell of my mother cooking a bomb breakfast and the sound of James Brown or Michael Jackson.
What's your next project & what should your fans expect next?
Well, The Howard Roard Project drop Oct 4th so I'm going to be pushing that but Im also launching The Divah Diaries on the Bidchat Network which is a talk show so people can look out for that as well.
Besides being an up and coming artist and producer with a growing fan base and buzz how do you stay busy?
I don't have to try to stay busy these days, I just am. Lol. There is always something to do when you are the label and producing your own show. I also perform often, so it gets to the point to where I have to schedule sleep. Lol.
What are the vocalist who inspired to start singing?
The first artist I ever learned from was Regina Belle. I learned "Baby Come To Me" at 5 and then performed Mariah Carey's "Vision of Love" in a talent show shortly after. As I grew and explored those influences changed. I found Chaka Khan, she is my ulitamate influence really. Her and Nina Simone.
What success means to you?
Success to me means doing what I love and what I was created for while being able to live a good life. I dont have to be a billionaire, I just want to be ok and happy, to make my mother proud.
What are your most memorable achievements this far and why?
My most memorable thus far would have to be getting into the UCLA jazz program and singing at the Apollo Theatre in New York. They were two things that I have really wanted to do and in the back of my mind felt or was told I couldn't achieve, but I did.
Any last words ? What are your plans for the near future
I plan to make my presence known and I plan to be great at it.
