A lot of models have been known to have more than just one title under their belt. The fashion world is full of models-slash-actresses, models-slash-entrepreneurs, and models-slash-designers, which just proves negative model stereotypes wrong. Nowadays, though, many gorgeous ladies of the industry have set their eyes on something more interesting and less expected: poker.
It used to be that poker was just a game played mostly by the male species. Today, the number of women players has progressively grown each year, and with such beauties around the poker table, no one’s complaining. Here are two models who, aside from killing it down the ramp, have also made quite an impression on the poker circuit.
Born with the smarts needed for such an intellectual game as poker, Liv Boeree went to the University of Manchester to study Physics with Astrophysics before eventually moving to London. Liv actually got her first taste of the game when she was selected as one of the contestants for Ultimatepoker.com Showdown, a reality TV program where top players the likes of Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth coached amateurs.
From then on, Liv began to play regularly, and it wasn’t long before she ranked high among so many pros and gradually became the third woman in history to win a title from the European Poker Tour.
It took a father-daughter reunion for former top fitness model and actress Christina Lindley to rediscover the game and ultimately venture into the world of poker.
During the Writers Guild of America’s 2007 strike, Christina’s flourishing acting career suddenly met a lull. Modeling was still there, but being the energetic woman she is, Christina used her extra time to visit family she’d lost touch with around the country. Upon meeting her father whom Christina hadn’t seen since her parents’ divorce, father and daughter decided to play games from her childhood in order to reconnect. It turned out one of those games was poker, and after sitting behind her father playing the lowest-stakes cash game in a poker room, Christina fell in love with the game.
In pursuing a career in the dynamic sport, Christina went from playing in local poker rooms and celebrity charity tournaments, to becoming friends and learning from local pros like Maria Ho and Tiffany Michelle, to playing in the renowned partypoker-sponsored World Poker Tour, to finally becoming one of the top female players in poker tournaments.
More models such as Beth Shak, Joanna Krupa, and Trishelle Canatella have jumped into the thrilling world of poker, which is further proof of the fact that virtually anyone can make it in this sport. All it takes is immersing yourself in the game, constant practice, and true commitment.
